THE DETAILS
Yellowstone National Park
Wyoming, USA
3,471 square miles
The last stop on my first trip out west was Yellowstone National Park, and it was worth the wait! The park is broadly laid out in a figure of eight fashion with two loops of road overlapping to provide access to the attractions throughout the park, and we explored almost all of them. This endeavor took us a few days, which gave us the opportunity to camp in the park. While I’m not a big fan of campgrounds (would rather backpack out to a remote dispersed camping area) it was great to feel truly immersed in the park. After seeing Lower Falls, Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, Mud Volcano, Old Faithful Inn, Lake Yellowstone Hotel, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, among many other picturesque locations, it was time to pack up and head home to Ohio. Reflecting back on this trip, I think it was a big factor in my decision to live there permanently. Once you’ve experienced the grandeur of the western United States, everything else pales in comparison.
