CHICHEN ITZA

While on a cruise in the Caribbean, we stopped in Mexico and I had the opportunity to explore Chichen Itza. The history of this site is obviously too rich for me to elaborate on here, but my visit was nothing short of astonishing. Places like Chichen Itza that were created by human beings long ago have a certain presence about them. We view them from the perspective of tourists or sometimes researchers, but imagining what it must’ve been like to be a part of the groups and cultures that created them is a fascinating mental exercise. Trying to develop an understanding of how earlier humans existed and how their existence shaped our societies today is one of my favorite topics to ponder.  I tried to capture the experience in the pictures below, but as with most locations, pictures don’t do the experience justice.
