INTRODUCTION

As always, you can view the photographic narrative for this story below. What is a photographic narrative?

After getting to our Hampton Inn in Page, AZ at around 2am the night before (see The Grueling Tanner Trail, to understand why), we slept like the dead, and took our time eating the always wonderful hotel breakfast in the morning. Eventually, we were ready to start our day. The goal was to eventually explore Zion National Park, however, before we left town we drove about five minutes down the road for a stop at the famous Horseshoe Bend. We went into the experience expecting an overabundance of tourists (including us), and we got exactly that. A nice little walking path led us from the tour-bus-filled parking lot to the main attraction. We walked about the rim of the horseshoe shaped canyon looking for spots to look down into it between disgruntled boyfriends snapping photos of their girlfriends for Instagram and others getting dangerously close to the edge. And after having our fill of the wonderful views, we hopped back in the car and headed down the road, stopping at the always amazing Glen Canyon Dam en route. This engineering marvel on the northern border of Page has been special to me ever since I unexpectedly stumbled upon it during my 2019 drive between Tucson and Salt Lake City. From here, we continued toward Zion National Park.
