INTRODUCTION

As always, you can view the photographic narrative for this story below. What is a photographic narrative?

Whereas the day prior had presented questionable driving conditions, today’s route would traverse lower elevations than those around Flagstaff. So, after another early morning wakeup and drive out of Flagstaff, the snow faded away and we were left driving through the picturesque northeastern part of Arizona. On the agenda for today was a stop at Monument Valley before finishing the drive north to Moab.

Our drive to Monument Valley was a foggy one; at time I could barely see more than fifty yards in front of me out my windshield. I had hoped that the fog would lift as the Sun got higher in the sky before we arrived at Monument valley, but alas, as we pulled into the visitor area parking lot, I could barely see anything past the visitors center in front of the car. The iconic monolithic rock formations we had come to see were largely masked by fog on the opposite of the visitors center. We went inside and milled around looking at handmade goods and photos on the wall. Gradually, the fog began to lift, and as we spent more time looking we could see more and more of the rock formations we’d come for.

Back on the road, we made a quick stop to look down the road on which Forest Gump had run, and then finished our drive to Moab.
