INTRODUCTION
As always, you can view the photographic narrative for this story below. What is a photographic narrative?
We started this trip with an uneventful and actually quite pleasant series of flights to Anchorage through Seattle (Alaskan Airlines has their stuff together. Take note American Airlines…) On our way off the plane and through the airport, a local who was returning home recommended a nearby viewpoint called Point Woronzof Overlook. So, as soon as we got our rental car we headed straight there. From here, we watched 747s pass by overhead to land at the world’s third busiest cargo airport, while the Sun set in the western skies over a mountain in the distance. And after taking in the grandeur before us, we drove to our hotel for the evening. It happened to share a parking lot with a Wendy’s, and having not eaten anything for about ten hours, we weren’t about to turn our noses up at the Four for Four combo (although it wasn’t quite as good as I remember it being in college).
With our travel day behind us, the next morning we set out for our official first day in Alaska. Wasting no time, we drove to Eklutna Lake for a waterfront hike around what was undoubtedly the most beautiful body of water I’d ever seen. We then drove back into Anchorage for a fantastic lunch at Glacier Brew House before again heading north to Wasilla. Just outside of this small town, an amazing Airbnb with the best views of any listing I’ve rented or browsed would be our home base for the first few days of our trip.
