INTRODUCTION
As always, you can view the photographic narrative for this story below. What is a photographic narrative?
From Meteor Crater, we arrived at Petrified Forest about an hour and a half before close, setting up what would be my fastest national park visit to date. The park is essentially organized around a single main road traversing it from north to south between Interstate 40 and State Route 180. In talking with the rangers, we simply had to be past the halfway point of this road before the official close time, and then gradually make our way out of the park once that time came. So we started down the road, pulling off the road at all of the features and regions that looked or sounded interesting. And then, as the sun was setting we continued out of the park and finished our drive to Tucson, arriving after midnight.
